In January 2009 the History began work on the period after 1832. A programme of work covering 1832-1945 is planned. The aim of the programme as a whole will be to create a web-based History of Parliament from 1832 to the present. It is envisaged as a collection of different projects, each of which will be potentially free-standing. The first major project will cover the period between the two Reform Acts, 1832-1868. We plan to produce this much more rapidly than previous sections by producing a different model History of Parliament article which takes advantage of the considerably increased range of digitised sources available for parliamentary history. We envisage a much greater level of collaboration than in previous projects with external scholars and institutions in order to meet a challenging timetable for the completion of each project.
The History has consulted widely on its plans, including through a colloquium with a number of academic historians and political scientists at the German Historical Institute in January 2007. You can read a report of the colloquium here.
We will be presenting our plans to those interested later in the year. If you would like to be kept informed about progress, please contact the Programme Editor, Philip Salmon, at psalmon@histparl.ac.uk.
