Biography

When Balde was elected as parliamentary burgess for Northampton, he was mainperned by William Clerk IV, for whom he in turn performed a similar service when he represented the borough in 1417. Although he is not known to have held any local office, he was described as one of the ‘venerable company of discreet men’ who, with the mayor, witnessed an entry in the town records in February 1424. With the landowner, John Longville, Balde held a knight’s fee in Wootton, Quinton and Hannington, Northamptonshire, for which he contributed 6s.8d. to a royal aid in 1428.
