Biography
In the will of William Wyther, made in 1399, Berell was granted in reversion half a tenement in West Street, Dorchester, the other half of which was to go to his mother. This was not the only property he held in West Street, for in 1423 he disposed of one tenement with its curtilage and dovehouse and by May 1424 had made a settlement of another. The former transaction describes him as ‘gentleman, of Tatton’. He apparently did not confine his activities to Dorchester, for in 1431 he served as a juror at an inquisition taken at Cerne, Dorset; and in 1442, when last heard of, was acting as a collector of a parliamentary subsidy in the county at large.
