Biography

Chapman was fined in the court of the honour of Arundel in 1407-8 for having committed minor transgressions, and again in the court of the hundred of Arundel 20 years later with regard to breaches of local trading regulations.1

William atte Well, a ‘chapman’ of Arundel, who in 1417 together with his wife Agnes purchased a messuage and two gardens at Upwaltham (a few miles to the north), was possibly the same man.2
