Biography

Farthing was admitted as a freeman of Canterbury by birth on 31 Mar. 1393, and before a year had passed was elected to represent the city in the House of Commons. He received 30s. in advance for his parliamentary wages, but had to wait until 1395-6 for payment of £2 more, as the balance of the sum owing.2 He is not recorded after his re-election as a jurat at Michaelmas 1398.
