Biography

John was probably a kinsman of William Glasen*. His first election as parliamentary burgess for Helston followed fairly soon after his only known term of office as senior portreeve of the town. At the elections to the same Parliament of 1411 he stood surety for John Penrose of Methleigh, one of the burgesses-elect for Liskeard; and he later acted similarly in 1420 and 1426 on behalf of those chosen by Helston: William Trethake II, William Richard and John Nicoll.3

The full extent of Glasen’s landed possessions is not known, but many years later, in 1480, his grandson disputed ownership of property in the parish of St. Breock, near Helston, which had apparently once belonged to him.4
