Biography

It could have been this John Herberd who, on 30 Jan. 1392, was nominated by Sir Thomas Carew, a prominent Devonshire landowner, to act as his attorney in Ireland for one year; but, if so, he must have returned home early, for the Parliament of 1393 assembled on 20 Jan. and sat until 10 Feb. following. It was probably he who, with his wife Joan, conveyed to Sir William Hankford c.j.KB in 1414 his toft and meadowland in the parish of Buckland Brewer, Devon.
