Biography

Hoge was a close associate, perhaps even a kinsman, of the Trevanions. He appeared as a co-defendant with John Trevanion, indicted in the King’s bench in 1394 for a breach of the peace in Cornwall, and at the assizes held at Launceston in March 1403 he was appointed by Richard Trevanion* to act as one of his attorneys in a plea of novel disseisin. Four years later he accompanied the latter and his other attorney, Michael Froden, to the Parliament at Gloucester, in which he and Froden represented Bodmin and Trevanion sat as a knight of the shire. Although perhaps an attorney by profession, Hoge was also engaged in the tin trade, albeit only on a small scale: in 1405-6 he had been assessed for coinage at Lostwithiel on 1,206 pounds of tin.
