Biography

It is now impossible to distinguish between all the different men of this name who were active in London and its suburbs during our period, and without specific evidence to connect any of them with Southwark the identity of this John Parker remains unknown. A John Parker appeared in September 1389 with William Spalding*, a local man, as witness to a London deed; and again, 11 years later, he attested an enfeoffment at Stratford, this time with William Redstone, another native of Southwark. Perhaps the John Parker often named as a juror at the possessory assizes of London between July 1382 and November 1411 was returned for the borough, but again this cannot be proved.
