Biography

In April 1408 Parlour purchased royal letters patent pardoning his trespass in having acquired for life from John Darras* the fourth part of a carucate in Worfield, and a moiety of the office of forester of Morfe forest, which lay immediately to the southwest of Bridgnorth, without first securing the necessary licence. In July 1411 he served as a juror at a coroner’s inquest held in the town itself. At that time he and his wife were in dispute with the parson of the church of Ribbesford (on the Severn, near Bewdley) over property in ‘Colynwick’ and ‘Alveton’, and it was possibly in this connexion that he (described as ‘of Bridgnorth, yeoman’) was later accused by a local jury of assaulting a constable at ‘Bewbrygge’. Parlour attended the shire elections held at Shrewsbury castle for the Parliaments of 1420, 1423 and 1427. His fellow Member for Bridgnorth in 1414 (Nov.), 1416 (Mar.), 1417 and 1419, Richard Horde, was also his co-bailiff in 1432-3 and 1438-9. In 1458 Parlour was no longer in possession of his property in Mill Street, Bridgnorth, but when he died is not known.2
