Biography

Sebright had become a freeman of Totnes and taken up residence within the town’s walls by the time of his single known election to Parliament. In December that same year he witnessed a conveyance of property there, and in the course of the following two years he regularly served on the town jury. His occupation is not recorded, but he seems to have been comparatively well-off among the inhabitants of Totnes, for he was assessed to pay as much as 1s.8d. towards the parliamentary subsidies levied in 1416. Apart from his appointment as a churchwarden of St. Mary’s in the previous year, he does not appear to have occupied any office. He was still living in Totnes ten years later.
