Biography

Nothing has come to light about Clement Hyett’s origins and upbringing, but he seems to have been a lawyer by profession. His services were retained by Sir John Rogers to whom he owed his post in the duchy of Lancaster, and his nomination at Wareham in 1555 was almost certainly Rogers’s work, Rogers securing his own return for the county. Like Rogers, Hyett followed Sir Anthony Kingston’s lead in voting against a government bill. He sat twice more for Wareham before his death, which took place between his last election to Parliament in April 1572 and November 1574 when the administration of his estate was granted to his sister Joan Carter.4
