Biography

Bagnall, a draper, owned two houses in Worcester, a pasture in Coleshill and other property just outside the town. He was named as an assistant of the local clothiers’ company under their charter of 1590. In Parliament, as one of the burgesses for Worcester he could have served on two committees concerning maltsters (9 Nov. 1597, 12 Jan. 1598) and one committee concerning bread (13 Jan.). In his will, made 28 Dec. 1607 and proved 6 Oct. 1609, he mentioned ‘the congregation of the faithful’ and asked to be buried in Worcester cathedral. His property was divided among his family, and one Anthony Tew was bequeathed a pair of virginals. He left 20s. to the poor of St. Swithin’s and gowns to the poor at his funeral. The widow was appointed sole executrix and residuary legatee; the overseers included his friend Rowland Berkeley.
