Biography

A man of this name was, according to D’Ewes, on 4 Apr. 1593 appointed to the committee to consider the statute of 1581 for reducing disloyal subjects to their due obedience. This is the only reference to such a man in this Parliament. No constituency suggests itself, and no Henry Brett has been found among the records of the Brett family in Somerset. Sir Walter Ralegh mentions his cousin Brett, ‘a very honest gentleman’, in a letter probably written in 1601, but no first name is given. Perhaps the name as it appears in D’Ewes is a mistake.
