Biography

Little has been discovered about Bryan. The churchwardens of All Saints, Hastings, noted in 1578 that he had not paid 4s. rent he owed them for a stable in the parish; by a new arrangement in the same year he was required to keep the stable in repair and to pay an annual rent of 13s. 3d. The last reference found to him is his being mentioned as jurat in the 1589 charter. The Thomas Bryan, baron of the Cinque Ports, who carried the canopy at the coronation of Charles I, may have been a relative.
