Biography

Of the Conway branch of the family, Bulkeley was usually described as ‘merchant’ or ‘merchant of Beaumaris’ to distinguish him from others of his name. He was one of the original capital burgesses of Beaumaris named in the 1562 charter, and became coroner two years later. By the time of the 1571 Parliament he was described as ‘gentleman’. In his will, made in June 1575 and proved the following 16 Apr., he made charitable bequests to Bangor cathedral and to the poor of Beaumaris. He left sums of £20 to five of his children and grandchildren, and half his goods and chattels to his second wife. The executors were his son Thomas and his son-in-law Maurice Griffith.
