Biography

Frank was one of two townsmen returned to Parliament for Wareham in the Elizabethan period. He was nephew and heir of Richard Frank, draper and mayor of Wareham 1569-70, who owned property at Wimborne Minster and Corfe Castle. Under the terms of Richard Frank’s will, proved in 1595, John Frank was charged with the distribution of gifts to the poor. Little more is known about him. His father may have been the John Frank of London who, as deputy auditor for Dorset, was concerned in an Exchequer case at Poole in 1570, aged about 39. This John Frank or another namesake was a party in several Chancery cases in London. Another Frank(e) family was of Hastings, Sussex.
