Biography

Apart from his marriage and the fact that he was a Southwark resident just at the time of the accession of Elizabeth, nothing is known of this Member. The name is too common to permit more than speculation as to whether the Bletchingley and Southwark MPs were one and the same. The Southwark man’s name does not appear on the surviving subsidy lists before the accession of Elizabeth. He was assessed at £20 in goods for the 1575-6 subsidy; his name is not on a later list tentatively dated 1593.2
