Biography

After an unsuccessful attempt, in 1572, Godwyn was returned to Parliament in 1593 along with his cousin James Godwyn, but was licensed to depart on 14 Mar. ‘for his better recovery of health’. He was not elected in 1597, though still recorder, and though both MPs were townsmen. He died before the next election, James Kirton succeeding him as recorder on 7 Aug. 1601.
