Biography

The only reference found to Mawdley in the records of his one Parliament is his being licensed to depart, 29 Nov. 1597, leaving 5s. for the poor and the minister. Thenceforward all that is known about him shows him dispensing hospitality: a dinner for Judge Edward Fenner, one of the justices of assize, when he visited Poole in 1598, for which the town was to repay him £3; a dinner for the deputy lieutenants who were dealing with the recusancy of a local gentleman’s son, when once again the town reimbursed him; and, in 16ol, a Sunday supper for the prisoners in Poole gaol. He died 99 Sept. 163o, when his son-in-law Arthur Radford was granted administration of his property.
