Biography

Sayer’s estate of St. Michael Penkivel was near enough to both Grampound and St. Mawes to account for his return for these boroughs. Through the Trevelyans he was connected with some of the leading Cornish families. He died intestate and was buried 11 Sept. 1603 at St. Michael Penkivel. Administration of his estate was granted to his widow on 5 Nov. 1603. He was survived by two sons, both minors, a third having predeceased him. There is nothing to indicate that the Cornish country gentleman was the Richard Sayer who wrote to Robert Cecil between 1591 and 1603 about the Queen’s title to the liberties of St. Albans, applying for a job in their administration.
