Biography

Virtually nothing has been discovered about Wyat beyond the bare outline of his civic career, and the evidence of his success as a merchant provided by his purchase of the manor of Lindley in St. Martin, Worcestershire, from Sir John Huband. He also acquired lands by lending money on mortgage.

Wyat was described as ‘a worthy magistrate who maintained the honour of his city’, probably because he was one of those who, in 1574, successfully resisted the attempt of the Worcestershire commissioners for musters to extend their jurisdiction to the city.
