Biography

Borlase played no known part in the Civil War, but his appointment to the commission of the peace in 1646 suggests parliamentarian sympathies. He was returned for Marlow on the family interest to Richard Cromwell’s Parliament and to the Convention, but he was named only to the committee of elections and privileges. Re-elected in 1661, he was again inactive in the Cavalier Parliament. He was added to the committee for a private bill on 11 May 1663 and to the committee of elections and privileges for the fourth session. But he died later in the same year and was buried at Little Marlow on 1 Nov. 1665. His son died unmarried in 1681, the last of this branch of the family.2
