Biography

It is difficult to determine which James Nicholls sat for Camelford. In all probability his father was the James Nicholls of St. Neots, Cornwall (1660–?1710), who had been admitted at the Inner Temple in 1685 and who in 1681 had married Dionisia, daughter of Richard Erisey of Trevenna.

Even less, however, is known about the Member himself. He may have been the Nicholls who signed the circular letter of October 1710 in support of the Tory candidates for knight of the shire for Cornwall. Following his return he was classed as a Tory on the Worsley list. His date of death has not been ascertained.2
