Biography
A cousin of the Rolles of Stevenstone and of Heanton Satchville in Devon, Rolle was, through his mother, the nephew of Sir Arthur Onslow, 2nd Bt.†, and of Denzil Onslow*. He inherited Shapwick in 1708 when his nephew died without issue. His father had been a strong Whig, but when Rolle was returned for Bridgwater, some eight miles from Shapwick, in 1713, he was classed as a Tory in the Worsley list. He was put out of the Somerset commission of the peace in 1715. He died in 1726, the last of the Shapwick Rolles to sit in Parliament.2
