Biography
John Calvert, who inherited a partnership in the family brewery in Whitecross Street, London, was returned as a government supporter for Wendover at a by-election in 1754 on the interest of Lord Verney, whose elder brother’s widow had married Calvert’s maternal uncle. With Lord Verney he was again successful at the general election in that year. He died 22 Feb. 1804.
