Biography

Goodere was born in India, the son of a servant of the East India Company, who made a fortune, purchased an estate in Herefordshire and ended as deputy governor of Bombay. He sat for Evesham as a Tory in Queen Anne’s last three Parliaments but lost his seat in 1715. Put up by the Herefordshire Tories for the county in 1722, he was returned after a contest. He did not stand again. Before his death, 29 Mar. 1739, one of his three sons was killed in a duel; the younger, a captain in the Royal Navy, was executed for the murder of his elder brother in 1741.1
