Biography

John Griffith succeeded to the estate and seat of his elder brother, voting for the septennial bill in 1716. There is no record of his voting during the Sunderland Administration of 1717-20, when like his electoral ally, Thomas Wynn, he may have joined the Whig Opposition. During Walpole’s Administration he consistently supported the Government. His death on 6 June 1739, when his son was still a minor, ended his family’s participation in the representation of the county.
