Biography

Hyett, who came of an old Gloucestershire family, purchased considerable properties near Gloucester in the early eighteenth century,1 building Painswick House, five miles from the city, in 1725.2 Returned in 1722 for Gloucester unopposed as a Tory, he did not stand again, dying 17 Feb. 1738. His sons, Nicholas and Benjamin Hyett, contested Gloucester unsuccessfully on the extreme Tory interest in 1734 and 1741.
