Biography

Richard Long was descended from Thomas Long (d. 1509) of Semington, in Steeple Ashton, who was almost certainly of the ancient Wiltshire family of Long of Wraxall.2 In 1730 he inherited an estate near Chippenham, for which he was returned as a Tory after a hot contest. His only recorded vote was against the Spanish convention in 1739. He did not stand again and died 6 May 1760.
