Biography
A member of the Jacobite Cycle of the White Rose, Robert Williams stood unsuccessfully for Montgomery Boroughs in 1727. He was brought into Parliament in 1740 by his elder brother, Sir Watkin Williams Wynn, to whom he surrendered his seat in 1741 in order to ensure him a place in the House. Resuming his seat in April 1742, he received an address from a general county meeting held in August commending his parliamentary conduct and enjoining him to bring Walpole to justice.1 One of the signatories of the opposition ‘whip’ in November 1743,2 he voted against the Government in all recorded divisions. He did not stand again, and died 18 May 1763.
