Biography

In Parliament Boscawen regularly supported Administration, except on Howe’s motion for an increase of the half-pay of naval captains, 9 Feb. 1773, and Grenville’s Election Act, 25 Feb. 1774, when he appears in the King’s list of dissenting friends. His only reported speech was in support of Howe’s motion.1

Always indifferent in health, Boscawen seems to have drifted into a rather unsatisfactory set, disapproved of by his family friends; he was described by Mrs. Delany as a ‘coxcomb’ and a ‘fop’.2

In 1774, gravely ill, he was sent to Spa, where he died 17 July 1774.
