Biography

Montgomerie and Thomas Staunton were connected at Ipswich with the party of ‘the Yellows’, the friends of Admiral Vernon, after whose death the two entered into engagements to support that interest, and drew lots for who should be first chosen. Staunton won, and Montgomerie had to wait until a second vacancy occurred on Samuel Kent’s death. They were to have stood on a joint interest at the general election in 1761, but Montgomerie declined.1

He died 26 Mar. 1766.
