Biography

According to Mrs. Thrale, Scott was ‘a brick-maker’.1 In 1780 he was returned unopposed for Bridport on the Sturt family interest. He voted in opposition till the fall of North; supported Shelburne’s peace preliminaries, 18 Feb. 1783, and voted for parliamentary reform, 7 May 1783. He voted against Fox’s East India bill, 27 Nov. 1783, and in Robinson’s list of January 1784 was classed as a supporter of Pitt’s Administration. But he was a member of the St. Alban’s Tavern group which tried to unite Pitt and Fox, and in Stockdale’s list of 19 Mar. was listed as ‘Opposition’. He successfully contested Bridport at the general election; was classed as Opposition by William Adam in May 1784, and henceforth voted regularly with them till he left Parliament. Apparently he never spoke in the House; and did not stand in 1790.

He died 1816.
