Biography
Guernsey was returned by his uncle the 2nd Marquess of Bath, a courtier like his father. He gave a silent support to the Portland and Perceval administrations. He rallied to the latter in all the crucial divisions of Jan.-Mar. 1810, when the Whigs listed him ‘doubtful’. He was, however, in the minority against committing Sir Francis Burdett to the Tower, 5 Apr. 1810. He sided with government on the Regency question, 1 Jan. 1811. In August of that year he accepted a commission in the army and subsequently vacated his seat. He died 3 Jan. 1859.
