Biography

Pleydell Bouverie was pursuing his naval career in command of the Medusa off South America when he was returned for Downton on the family interest, 1806-7. He made a reputation for himself by capturing enemy ships and served off the north coast of Spain in 1812-13. In June 1813 he left the Medusa and was not afloat again until 1828, when he was once more returned to Parliament in a family seat. He died 5 Nov. 1850.
