Biography

Reynell came of an old Devonshire family, owning the manors of East and West Ogwell and Denbury, with property in Ashburton,1 which he represented for 33 years. Though he was classed as a Whig in 1715, all his recorded votes were against the Government. Defeated in 1734, he died next year (buried 14 June). In his will he directed that his estates should be sold to pay his debts and legacies, and to purchase ‘lands in South Britain’ for his niece, the wife of Joseph Taylor, and her son, his godson.2
